- 3COM : This company refuses to develop device drivers for their products for any 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. They also refuse to develop any Vista drivers (both 32-bit and 64-bit). It is possible that other vendors that use 3COM chips in their products (Dell, HP, etc) may take on this burden in the future. Has Problems, But Can Be Solved
Input Devices
- Genius WizardPen: (x86) Vista will recognize it as an input device, and will enable TabletPC support, but it won't work as a pen (so pen flicks, and pressure sensitivity won't work). The driver for XP doesn't install (but can be installed manually from the device manager, but even this way the wservice.exe won't run in Vista, so the advanced pen functions, like pressure sensitivity won't work)
Motherboards
- ABIT KN8 Ultra: Integrated soundcard doesn't work out of the box, you need to install the drivers from ABIT.
- Asus K8V SE Deluxe: All drivers install except promise raid controller, which is fixed by installing from device manager and browsing the motherboard cd for the driver, after this everything works fine with no issues.
- MSI K8N Diamond plus: SiL SATA drivers installed after you run Windows Updates. Drivers for the integrated Soundblaster Live! 24 require manual install. nVIDIA SATA ports initially recognized as IDE. Drivers need to be installed with the "have disk" option (nforce-vista 32).
- Promise FASTRACK IDE/RAID controller-equipped motherboards can use the W2K3 drivers, which work fine.
SCSI Host Bus Adapters
LSI Logic
- LSI 20320-R - recognized by and drivers loaded from Vista X64 RTM (Build 6000) DVD. Intel D975XBX2 motherboard will not boot from a hard disk drive attached to this controller without a BIOS upgrade.
Sound Cards
- Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! 24 (integrated). Drivers not on the CD and not available on Windows update. Basic functionality only, the software installs but doesn't work. (documented in the driver release)
- M-Audio firewire 4/10 use latest driver in xp compatablity mode to get 2 channel stereo. All other functions dont work.
Graphic Cards
- ATI X1600 512MB: "driver in infinite loop" 0x000000
FIX: After the reboot going into the setup for the last time do this. Press Shift+F10 to open a command window. Run C:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc this opens the device manager. Disable both the primary and secondary video card controller drivers.(You have about 60sec to do all of this) It's so stupid but it works
- ATI IGP 9x00 mobility chipset (128MB) on notebook Compaq nx9110 (Widescreen LCD).
After installation of Vista working only standard VGA (4:3) with resolution 800x600 and 1024x768. I added manualy Windows XP driver for IGP 9x00 chipset. Now widescreen display working with typical 1280x800 and 32b, but Aero not yet (only PS 1.1).
Printers and Scanners
NOTE: Most HP ScanJets will probably work properly if you download the drivers through Windows Update (3/9/07)
- HP LaserScan Color 3600n - Works with XP Driver only. No network availability, drivers coming per HP website.
- HP ScanJet 4600. Install HP software first, it will fail at the end and that is okay because VueScan requires the HP libraries to be on your computer. You may have to try and install the VueScan basic driver then reinstall the HP driver (Version 2.0.1.542, Date: 10/23/2003) This might work for most HP scanners. Note that only the VueScan software will be able to acquire an image, it does not enable anything else to work with a TWAIN driver. There is new driver you can download from HP for Vista and my ScanJet 4670 works great with the driver!
- HP ScanJet 5200C - Works if you install the driver from the Vuescan software.
- Konica Minolta Magicolor 2300DL. Tries to install as "Save to file." Detailed install instructions are available at http://onlinehelp.kmprinters.com/CPDocs/q0107023.htm
- Zebra LP2844ps Thermal Printer - Works with XP driver.
Heavy Problems, currently incompatible
Motherboards / Chipsets
- VIA KT400 chipset with radeon graphics controller causes Experience Index = 1.0. In log, it says "Direct3d device could not be initialized, downgrading score to 1.0." I tested with Radeon 9600pro and X800. Same radeons works great with nForce2 chipset (Index 3.8 and 4.5). Geforce graphics controller works well with KT400. This is not just about index, all desktop graphics run very slowly (showing folder contains while moving it around in desktop is VERY slow, also resizing media player while playing video), games run well though. It feels like there is no hardware acceleration at all in desktop.
Input Devices
Logitech Keyboards and Mice with iTouch or Mouseware software included are currently incompatible. > Logitech now has Mouseware software that works with Vista 32 and Vista 64 bit: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/428/135&cl=us,en
Printers and Scanners
- Dell A920/Lexmark X1100 - No Vista drivers available. Recognised by Vista but will not work with the XP drivers supplied.
- Genius SF-600 - Not recognised. Drivers not found on Windows Update. XP install bombs out with an unsupported OS. Genius have confirmed they will not be making a Vista driver for this product.
- Microtek ScanMaker i800 Flatbed Scanner - USB 2.0, not recognized as known device; Firewire (IEEE 1394), not recognized as a known device. Drivers not found on Windows Update. Attempting to search for drivers after installing ScanMaker Pro v7.52 (C:\ as starting point) identifies drive as ICE (USB or IEEE1394) 4800, but does not load. Unable to use at this time.
Network Cards
- Intel Pro/1000 PT Server PCI-e x1 Adapter (Default Vista driver: Limited Connectivity - nothing works; 64-bit: PROVISTAX64 11.2 driver installs and detects OK, but cannot find any computers on the network, connections keep going on and off, freezing the mouse/screen and shows Limited Connectivity on screen)
- Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection works with Vista x86. However, there's no 64-bit driver available.
- Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC works with additional drivers, but Vista X86 says it is not compatible, and the network connected to it is always detected as a public one.
- ZyXEL G-360: no drivers for any 64-bit Vista or XP. The card is not mentioned on ZyXEL's Vista support page.
RAID Controllers
- Adaptec Adaptec AIC-7901 (Ultra320) HOSTRaid support - In fact, very few of the Adaptec RAID controllers have full Vista drivers yet. Check the link for Adaptec's Vista compatibility chart.
- Silicon Image Sil3512 (in Shuttle FN85 Mainboard) doesn't work correctly as of yet (can't detect HDD), prober driver needed
Sound Cards
- Maudio revolution 5.1 24/192 khz - Default installer works in compatability mode.(right click on installer run in xp compatability mode) it gives 5.1 out put but tray application does"nt respond.
Web Cameras and Digital Cameras
- LifeView FlyCAM USB 100 XP3 Web Camera - Incompatiblity problem. No Vista drivers for this device (can be found the latest XP drivers). In the end of the setup (after copying files and finishing installation), an error message nothing is written is received, then you click "Finish" button. Then, you have to install the drivers at Device Manager. But, the drivers are installed too lately here. Then, the installation completed and the camera is recognised by the name "SoC PC-Camera". But, the camera is not located in Computer and other folders. Also, AmCap doesn't active the camera to show. So, this camera doesn't work under Vista.
- Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX - Working fine on RC1, RC2 and RTM version of Vista x64. Finally Logitech did some drivers for x64 platform (XP and Vista). A complete list of devices supported could be find here. Also, download for version 10.4 of the drivers
- Logitech QuickCam 4000 - No drivers as of yet.
- Trution TWC-7000X (64-bit) - no drivers for Vista and XP drivers don't seem to work. A couple of drivers were told to work, but they don't.
USB ADSL Modems
- Webpower USB ADSL (based on GlobespanVirata chip) - you can install the old unsigned XP drivers for Wepower but you have to select the right modem from the connection property because by default a wrong NULL error modem is selected (check the modem properties using the IE7's Connections tab -> Settings -> Properties). But the connection speed is very very slow (it worked fine in beta2, but in RTM is very very slow).
- Huawei E220 (web´n´walk Version Austria T-Mobile) - recognized as CDFS (?!) but can´t read from, no driver installed...
incompatible -> see Vista HCL :-(
Work-Around: You need another PC/Laptop and a USB Pen/Key Drive to do this:
1) Connect the E220 to your XP PC/Laptop
2) access the emulated CD Drive and copy all the Contents onto a USB Pen Drive.
3) Disconnect the E220 and the Pen Drive
4) Connect the Pen Drive to your Vista PC and install the software using the Autorun.exe file (Run as Administrator)
5) Connect the E220 - Vista will only recognize a USB Mass Storage Device and the emulated CD drive which it cannot access.
6) Open the Device Manager (in the Control Panel)
7) Look for the USB Mass Storage Device in the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" Section
If there are more than one USB Mass Storage Devices, right click each one, select Properties, Details and then "Children" If it says "Huawei" somewhere inside the Value, you found the right one.
8) Right click on the Mass Storage Device and select "Update Driver Software"
9) Select "Browse my Computer"
10) Select "Let me pick"
11) Uncheck "Show compatible devices"
12) Select "(Generic USB Host Controller)" in the Manufacturer Tab
13) Select "USB Composite Device" in the Model Tab
14) Finish installing the Composite Device driver
15) Afterwards, Vista will add another USB Mass Storage Device, and if you are lucky, also 2 "Data Interfaces"
16) If it doesn't detect the Data Interfaces, disconnect and reconnect your E220.
17) Vista should now detect all the E220s Data Interfaces
18) When asked to insert the disk containing the drivers, choose "I don't have the disk"
19) Enter the \Drivers\WinXP Subfolder of your USB Pen Drive
20) Repeat Step 18&19 for the second Data Interface
21) Start your Huawei Mobile Connect (Web'n'Walk Manager) Software, and connect :)
This has worked for me 3 times, I hope it does so for you, too!
Note: This does NOT fix the Problem concerning the corrupt emulated CD-ROM Drive!
--Hedelein
56K Modems
- Intel 537EP - No Vista drivers available from Intel. Can manually force installation of an XP driver for this modem and modem will function, however, the blue screen of death will appear on every shutdown of Vista as there is an error with IntelC52.sys.
Mobile / Cell Phone / Handi
- Sanyo SCP-7300 - No drivers are known to work. Tried force-installing XP drivers, still doesn't work. I wouldn't hold your breath. These drivers will probably never be ported to Vista since it's an older (more than a couple years old) phone.
- Sony Ericsson W800i - No drivers working. Only tested on Vista 64 bit. XP drivers may work on 32 bit version. In an email from there support they stated they will have software and drivers ready by June this year.
Sony W300I no drivers compatible with Vista
TV Tuners
- Anysee E30 (64-bit) - Drivers missing. Couldn't find XP 64-bit drivers either.
- ATI Rage PRO All-in-Wonder (32-bit) - TV DOESNT WORK! =freeze; but graphic drivers DO work (download XP version but some compat issues)
- WinFast TV2000XP Expert is recognized by Vista but it does not work. Software included on CD - does not work. Software downloaded from Leadtek alto it said it is certified for Vista - does not work. Media Center in Vista will tell you "no tuner hardware detected". Support from Leadtek - non existent.
- Hauppauge 5oo MCE - recognized by Vista and Media Center, very bad video, can't solve the problem, waiting for an answer from Hauppauge tech service for a month. Shortly I did not see any TV tunners that work in Vista.
- ATI TV Wonder 550 Pro is not compatible with Windows Vista's Media Center. The drivers are also not too great at installing
- Omnivision POP XP tv tuner is not recognized in Windows XP Media Center Edition or Windows Vista Media Center. Drivers are available at Omni.co.kr.
- AverMedia AVerTV USB 2.0/AVerTV USB 2.0 Lite - Avermedia does not provide any drivers for windows vista (32bit or 64bit) for this device. If you try the ones for Windows 2000/xp, although installation may seem successfull, the device manager will show a problem on the sound controller of the device. You will not be able to use this device at all, as the software it came along with the drivers will fail to launch the device, and it is not recognised by Windows Media Center (at least that's what i got in my windows vista home premium 32bit, on 64 bit versions, things will possibly be even worse)
screen size comptbility
in the website of microsoft the minimal requierments for aero are writen in very confusing form.
