This entry shall enable all ieX members to create a list of hardware, that will work with Vista Beta Build 5219, or won't work, so that it's possible to check that even before installation.

  • An italic entry denotes a piece of hardware that was reported to work previously, but is unconfirmed for this particular build.
    Therefore, new entries should generally NOT be italicized.
  • Please mention if it applies to the 32 or the 64 Bit Build!

  • SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio (Tested with ASUS P4S800 Motherboard) - Needs latest drivers available to work correctly, otherwise install chipset drivers for AGP and IDE. Sound may skip and studder if not using the latest driver set.
  • CM9880/8CH Azalia Audio CODEC onboard (found on asus boards) - basic microsoft uaa function driver installed by Vista works but misses soundinput. Install latest asus/c-media software ( set compatibility mode to xp for the installer) > reboot > set multiple streams enabled > switch input from microphone to wave and back > reboot
  • ECHO AUDIO - INDIGO DJ - ok but with strange routing in virtual outputs

  • ATI Radeon X800 XT PE Have problem with black screen when installing LDDM driver
  • ATI Radeon X700Pro AGP Have problem with black screen when installing LDDM driver
  • Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800XT only work with VGASAVE driver of Windows with all resolutions but not at all with the LDDM drive (Vista 64 Bit)

  • A8V Promise Raid controller with SATA works. (Need to enable raid only if one HD is installed)
  • nVidia nForce 4 manuelle Installation WinXP IDE SATA_IDE driver version 5.34/5.35 (32 Bit)
  • Intel ICH5R - Modify the RAID drivers so they are on the root of the disk, not inside any directories (32 Bit)
  • A8V Via Raid controller dont works. (could not get information)

Sound Cards / Soundkarten

I installed NGO Creative Modded Driver for SB Live! and Audigy (ngocmd.exe). Sound like shit until i changed the default sound quality from 16bit to 24bit 48000hz. Try it!!

  • Buffalo High Power 802.11g Wireless PCMCIA Card - Installs with alternate driver, but refuses to see networks or connect.
  • Fritz!Card DSL - isdn works ok
  • Intel D875BZLK PRO/1000 Network card - detected but IE conntecting to 1.0.0.0
  • Intel Pro/1000 MT Mobile Adapter - Connects and pings, but refuses to browse the net in IE7, Firefox
  • Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (doesn't work)
  • Netgear USB WG111 - No built-in support, and WinXP drivers don't work either
  • 3Com 3C905C Integrated Network Card, Found no drivers that work.

  • Audigy EX Works with preview driver for X64 but comes with at gameport device for installtion every time on boot
  • Audigy 2 LS, seems to work in device manager but sound is ugly / Funktioniert laut Gerätemanager, Soundqualität ist sehr schlecht. (32 Bit)
  • Audigy 2, can't even be detected.
  • Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value (32 Bit) * Updated* See Soundcard section above.
  • nForce2 onboard soundcard - not supported, error on install (32 bit)

  • TerraTec Cinergy 400 TV (32 Bit) Remote Control dosen´t work and Cinergy TV hangs often up / Fernbedinung läuft nicht und Cinergy TV bleibt häufig hängen. Tested with / getestet mit Version 3.80. DScaler dosen´t start / DScaler startet nicht.

How to add add hardware

If your hardware isn't automatically detected and installed by Vista, the first option is to find vista-built drivers, which are in short supply.

The next method is to use compatability mode to run the driver installation program in windows xp mode. If that fails/does not install...

Extract or browse to the folder with the .inf files (driver files) for the device. select every .inf file, and right click them, then click install. After the process has finished, use device manager to install, and navigate to the .inf files' location, then go through them untill you find one that is detected. If none work, tough luck, you'll have to wait until the manufacturer updates the drivers.
