Windows Server 2003
From IeXwiki
This is the family of current server operating systems from Microsoft. Released in 2003, this marks the first time Microsoft released the client version (Windows XP a.k.a. NT 5.1) prior to the server version (Windows Server 2003 a.k.a. NT 5.2) of an NT release.
Server 2003 came late, as Microsoft marketing felt it was appropriate to change the minor kernel version number from 5.1 to 5.2. This is also the case with the newly ported Windows XP Professional x64, which is based on the same kernel codebase as Windows Server 2003.
It should be noted that most software vendors use built-in API functions to discover whether they are being run on a client version of Windows or a server version, preventing a home edition from being run in a server or corporate environment. Corporate editions of software are mandatory in many cases due to these functions.
As all Windows flavors traditionally contain the same resources and code and are only divided by additional software modules and registry keys, it is possible to turn Server 2003 into Windows XP version 5.1, also changing the About box graphics. The same trick changes Windows XP IA32 into "Windows Whistler Server" (note: This server edition was not completed then, so it shows only the codename *ggg*)
