Intel Corporation is the company responsible for producing the microprocessors that most commonly appear in Windows-based computers. This included the 80386 and 80486 processors in the early 90s and the Pentium line of processors. The Pentium 4 is the current processor for desktops while the Centrino brand is the most popular for mobile computing.
Intel will also become the producer of chips for Apple Computer's Macintosh line beginning in 2006. Apple is currently aiming to switch all products to the new Intel chip by the end of 2006. It is unknown as to what excactly the processor will be called.
