3DFX
From IeXwiki
The pioneers of 3D Gaming. Originally began circa 1994 making arcade hardware, they eventually became interested in the PC Industry and introduced the Voodoo, the world's trulely first 3D video card. It featured Glide, DirectX, and OpenGL API's. Their demise was sometime around 1999-2000 when NVIDIA bought them out after a long court battle over patent infrigements. 3DFX closed the doors for good on December 15, 2000. Some theories on their demise included the neglection of 32-bit colour technology, upgrading to DDR RAM modules, and neglecting to offer full AGP support. Their most anticipated card was the Voodoo 5 6000, which only about 300 or so (give or take) actually work, there is no exact number on how many actually made it out of 3DFX's hardware labs.
